#Listening to Our Love Sharon Van Etten
I’ve rediscovered this song on my playlist called Our Love by Sharon Van Etten. You can listen to it on Spotify.
I love the clean, quiet texture. On my Tannoys, they give a strong thumpiness that’s satisfying – especially apparent at the beginning beat, my speakers can take those lows and deliver tight, clear bass. I can feel my couch vibrate and my back responds to the instances of bass vibrating the couch. The other strong suit of my speakers – 36Khz highs means the high notes of the vocals and instruments are clear and full and close completely. The song presents a great variety of instruments to test imaging, a bass beat with high note instruments which you can pick out individually.
I’m just not so sure the recording on Spotify is completely clean, though, since at the end the right channel presents some weird fractal not present on the left channel.
I find the song very relaxing and very good for late night listening since it presents the vocals and musical instruments in a fine manner without overpowering the song.
The lyrics too are melancholic, I have a thing for melancholic lyrics. Talking about lyrics, judging from the song you’d think she said more. I guess the nuance of saying the same thing in different tones really gets different emotional states across.
You say I am genuine
It’s our love
I see your backhand again
I’m a sinner, I have sinned
We’re a half mast flag in wind
It’s our love
It’s our love
It’s our love
It’s our love
It’s our love
It’s our love
It’s our love
It’s our love
At the bottom of a well
I’m reliving my own hell
Someone throws the ladder down
Still don’t know what I have found
In our love
In our love
In our love
In our love
In our love
In our love
In our love
In our love
In our love
It’s all love
It’s all love
It’s all love
It’s all love
It’s all love
It’s all love
It’s all love
It’s all love
Sharon Van Etten seems to be a cool artist, I will be listening to her other music. Comparing the 320kbps Spotify stream with YouTube’s lossy compression, one can notice loss of fidelity with instruments that occupy higher frequencies. Also, the YouTube algorithm seems to accentuate the bass and mid frequencies.
I hope you enjoyed this post on what I’m currently #Listeningto and tell me if you like this song!
